French Crisps

From Flat Whites to French Crisps: How Our Coffee Shop is Embracing Gourmet Snacking

By Blog Posts No Comments

Coffee shops have always been about more than just the coffee. They’re gathering spots, creative hubs, quiet corners for reflection, and places where good conversation flows as freely as the espresso. While we’ll always have a deep love for the perfect cappuccino or a velvety flat white, we’re now adding something new to our shelves that’s capturing the imagination—and the taste buds—of our customers: French crisps.

That’s right. We’re branching out beyond beans and brews and diving into the world of gourmet snacks, starting with a hand-picked selection of flavourful, artisan crisps from Bret’s, a French brand renowned for its inventive take on the humble potato chip. These aren’t your average snacks. They’re thoughtfully crafted, flavour-rich treats that bring the boldness of French cuisine to your everyday coffee break.

Why French Crisps?

In recent years, there’s been a growing appetite for snacks that go beyond the usual. As customers become more adventurous with their palates, there’s increasing demand for something more refined, more flavourful—and, dare we say it, more fun. Enter Bret’s crisps: a French creation that takes snacking to gourmet levels.

Crafted in Brittany, France, Bret’s crisps are made from locally sourced potatoes and cooked in sunflower oil to create the perfect crunch. What sets them apart, though, is their bold and creative flavours, many of which are inspired by beloved French and Mediterranean ingredients.

We’re proud to introduce three of our absolute favourites: Camembert, Aioli, and Pesto Mozzarella.

Camembert Crisps: For the Fromage Lovers

Let’s start with the Camembert. If you’re a fan of strong, creamy French cheese, these crisps will be your new obsession.

Open the bag and you’re immediately greeted with a rich, unmistakably cheesy aroma. It’s bold, it’s funky, and it’s authentically Camembert. The crisps themselves are thick-cut and ridged, giving them a satisfying bite and making them ideal for scooping into creamy dips—though they’re packed with enough flavour to be enjoyed entirely on their own.

Perfect for sharing at parties or adding to a cheeseboard, these crisps are a unique snack that captures the essence of a French fromagerie. They pair beautifully with a chilled white wine or a crisp lager, and they’ve become a firm favourite among our more adventurous regulars.

Aioli Crisps: A Mediterranean Masterpiece

Next up: the Aioli crisps.

These are for those who love the sharp, garlicky hit of a proper Mediterranean aioli. Made in Brittany but inspired by sun-soaked Southern flavours, these kettle-cooked crisps pack a savoury punch. The seasoning is rich and garlicky without being overwhelming, making them incredibly moreish.

What we love most about the Aioli crisps is their versatility. They’re ideal as an aperitif snack, perfect with a spritz or a chilled glass of rosé. They also make an excellent sidekick to sandwiches, paninis, or even a cheeky cheese toastie. It’s the kind of snack you don’t expect to find in a coffee shop or paired with a coffee, which is precisely why it works—offering a little taste of the unexpected.

Pesto Mozzarella : An Italian Twist

Last but certainly not least, we have the Pesto Mozzarella crisps—a gorgeous combination of creamy cheese and the herbaceous hit of basil-rich pesto. If you’ve ever dipped your bread into a fresh pesto or melted mozzarella over toasted sourdough, these crisps will feel like home.

They’re gluten-free, made from natural ingredients, and brimming with personality. Hints of onion, garlic, basil, and cheese powder add layers of flavour that unfold with each bite. These are crisps that work on a cheese board just as well as in a lunch bag. They’re light enough for a daytime snack but flavourful enough to stand up next to a bold red wine or espresso.

We particularly love serving them alongside our charcuterie-style sharing plates or as a crunchy side to our house salads.

A New Chapter in Coffee Shop Culture

You might be wondering—why crisps? Why now?

Our answer is simple. Just as coffee has evolved, so too has the food that accompanies it. Customers are more discerning than ever and expect quality, sustainability, and above all, flavour. French crisps offer all three.

By introducing gourmet snacks like Bret’s, we’re expanding what a coffee shop can offer. It’s no longer just a quick caffeine fix. It’s a curated food and drink experience. The crisps are conversation starters, flavour journeys, and comforting indulgences—all rolled into one.

Perfect Pairings

Looking for inspiration? Here are some of our favourite crisp and coffee pairings:

  • Camembert Crisps + Flat White – the creamy milk and bold espresso balance the rich cheese beautifully.

  • Aioli Crisps + Iced Latte – cool and refreshing meets garlicky and savoury.

  • Pesto Mozzarella Crisps + Filter Coffee – a lighter brew highlights the herbal notes of basil.

We’re also experimenting with adding these crisps to our food offerings—think lunch platters, salad toppers, or paired with wine for Friday evenings-Let us know what you think !!

Pop In and Try Them

So, whether you’re a long-time loyal customer or a curious first-timer, we invite you to stop by, grab your favourite coffee, and try a bag of Bret’s French crisps. They’re a crunchy, flavour-packed upgrade to your regular snack routine—and they might just become your new go-to.
